WORLD RULES

And Frequently Asked Questions

General World Rules

  1. Anyone wanting to be apart of Meridia must register to play.

  2. All players must choose a STEM, which will be the basis of their nation, and dictate what they can do.

  3. Each player may use up to 14 points when choosing their STEM.

  4. Every three months, players may reshuffle their STEM to match the direction their nation has gone.

  5. Every year, players may add an additional point to their STEM to signify advancements made. Max 5.

  6. In the event of disagreement, Meridia moderators will have the final say on things.

  7. Standard roleplaying custom and etiquette is to be observed.

Map Rules

  1. Depending upon your STEM, you may claim portions of the map.

  2. If you are not capable of claiming territory, you can instead specify a region of the map in which a marker will be placed, signifying that your people inhabit this general area.

  3. Certain portions of the map are intentionally ambiguous.  This is to encourage strife among players and provide some realistic scenarios for disagreement.

  4. You cannot claim territory already owned by someone else.

Colonization

  1. If able, nations can mark unclaimed portions of the map as colonies.

  2. Colonies are not considered owned, and can thus be claimed by new players.  Once again, this is to create potential RP scenarios.

  3. Colonies take 3 months to become settled, at which point they are considered owned.

World Building

  1. Players are able to fabricate their own races, histories, lore, etc.

  2. Players are able to dictate whether their fabricated races are playable for other people or unique to them.

  3. Standard fantasy races are open to everyone.

  4. The Shadow is the most significant event in Meridia, and should be considered as such.  It affected everyone, and no one was safe.  This means that no players can claim to have survived or hidden from the Shadow.

  5. Players are allowed to fabricate whatever lore they wish concerning the Shadow, and how it affected them.

  6. Players are able to create any type or amount of ruins from the Shadow.  Further, artifacts and hidden knowledge can be found within, but must be reasonable and character based.  A magical sword or scroll that grants one person the ability to shoot fire from their fingers is fine, but something that makes everyone in the nation immune to harm or a weapon that can destroy the world isn't; unless it's a plot point, of course, but please discuss with a moderator and your fellow players.

FAQ

  • I chose a very low level STEM, does that mean I'm stuck with that for everything?

    • As mentioned, players can reshuffle their STEM once every 3 months.

    • Players are also allowed some leeway.  If, for example, you're a Tier 0 magic, having 1 or 2 characters having some magical affinity is allowed.

    • Another example would be a Tier 2 technology level (bronze age), but due to braving the horrors of a Shadow ruin, a character has a magical steel sword, or a steampunk pistol or some such item.

    • In summary, small discrepancies for characters is fine.  The STEM is meant as a general rule, but there are always exceptions.

  • I had a colony somewhere, but now a new player has claimed it.  What do?

    • Your intrepid colonists have discovered a hidden civilization in the dark corners of this new land!  How shall you deal with them?  Subjugation?  Extermination?  Trade and cohabitation?  Perhaps they're more powerful, and you now face an enemy that can destroy you.  Whatever the case may be, enjoy the story line that has come of this fortuitous event!

  • There is a small island in the river that separates my land from my neighbour, who owns that?

    • Whomever can impose their will upon the other.  Look at China and Japan, as an example, and all the islands between them.  I leave it to you to figure out.

  • My people are cool and have decided to worship the Shadow.  Can I bring them back?

    • First of all, your people are lunatics, as the Shadow was horrible.

    • Second, worship all you want, but no, you can't bring them back.

    • Not all of them, nor even one of them.  No ghosts or spirits(though recorded holograms are fine) and no survivors of whatever cataclysm befell them.  The Shadow is gone.  Forever.

  • What about other monsters?

    • Have whatever types of monsters you'd like, so long as they aren't used as weapons against other players.  Except Tier 7 Magic, of course.  Then go nuts.
